THIS IS AN UNFINISHED PROOF OF CONCEPT! TREAT HER WITH CARE, MORE FEATURES WILL BE OUT IN THE NEARISH FUTURE HOPEFULLY!! (Saving, pruning, speed upgrades)

Browser Botanical is a small experiment created for PROCJAM 2025. In the dead of winter and with the theme 'cold places', Browser Botanical is a small game that lets you something usually impossible in the winter: grow a tree!

Relax, let the time pass, grow your tree!

Created as a tool to help focus, Browser Botanical runs in the background, just needing water every 5 minutes or so and an occasional fruit harvest. Watch as your fractal tree grows with random genes! Hit restart in the top right to start a new plant with new genes.

In the future, I hope to add new fractal types, saving and loading, saving multiple plants, and crossbreeding.

I realize both of these suggestions might be against the core ideology of the game so take them with a grain of salt. I like creating something pretty but adding the option to speed up the ticks would be helpful to see a more realized tree faster. Adding in the opportunity to delete branches would be fun as well to have more user input.

I've considered both! Pruning and saving I think are my next goals, and maybe a mulch or some kind of optional upgrade to speed things up.

If you plan on continuing to work on the game, you should add an option to save your progress, as I accidentally refreshed the page and lost my tree :(

That's my next goal! I just didn't have time to add with 1) with the jam and 2) I've never actually done saving and loading in browser, so I'll have to poke around online to find a good system.

yea, if i knew how to do saving for a browser game i would offer to provide some information however i haven't figured that out on my own. I wish you luck with your game!

For me in firefox, the game doesn't run unless it's focused. it's kinda hard to justify leaving my computer dedicated to this, but maybe it'll help me get more offline time...

Fixed, along with some UI stuff! Thanks for letting me know!
